In celebration of Israel’s 69th Yom Haatzmaut, Congregation Darchei Noam is inviting the community to a myriad of events, starting with an Israeli Singalong of Shirei Moledet, beloved oldie Israeli songs, in Hebrew (with transliteration), led by Yitzhak Argaman and David Lefkowich on guitar, on Saturday, April 29 at 7:30, 864 Sheppard West ($5 collected after 9:00 p.m., refreshments).

On Saturday, June 17, at 1:00PM, Israel’s Consul, Galit Baram, will give a talk that will kick off a year-long “Darchei Noam celebrates Israel” program.

On Sunday, June 18, Ori Yehudai, Professor of Jewish History at University of Toronto, will speak at Darchei Noam about migration to and from the early State of Israel (’48 to ’67).

Congregation Darchei Noam is a progressive synagogue of 460 households that blends traditional and modern Jewish practices. It is an inclusive, egalitarian, diverse and warm congregation that makes its guests and members feel welcome to engage and connect with our heritage through learning, cultural programs and ritual services. Of particular interest to Israelis – the prayers in the service at Darchei Noam are in Hebrew. This vibrant community focuses on learning, the environment, and social justice. It is led by its members in partnership with their dynamic and beloved Rabbi Tina Grimberg.

Music, and its integration into services, plays a central role at Darchei Noam. Every two weeks our ShabbaToT program for grand/parents and their little ones includes music, play and Hebrew learning through song, story, and art and is widely attended.

Israeli-Canadian members of Darchei Noam are fully integrated in the community and bring a unique and first hand perspective. Darchei Noam views Israel as central to Judaism and fosters a connection between the Jewish state and the community. The congregation expresses its love of Israel through a number of cultural events and activities, such as Israeli movies, Rikudei Am, and Israeli speakers. It encourages respectful and open dialogue where a wide spectrum of voices is heard. Darchei Noam is proud to welcome a ShinShin (young Israeli emissary) to our community this August.

Darchei Noam is proud of its growing and successful Hebrew School, with its Israeli-Canadian Director, Ariel Zaltzman. The Hebrew school is dedicated to instilling Jewish knowledge and values in the children from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6, and prepares youth for a meaningful Bar or Bat Mitzvah ceremony. It offers a dynamic curriculum based on experiential learning and an engaging, enjoyable experience centred on Jewish life. The school helps students develop their Jewish identity, encourages the building of strong bonds with other Jewish children, and provides a welcoming environment to learn about Judaism and Israel. Jewish studies combine liberal Jewish values with Jewish principles and traditions, like tzedakah and tikkun olam, in an engaging and enjoyable way.

Darchei Noam’s Emerging Jewish Adulthood Program starts in Grade 7 and prepares students for their transition into Jewish adulthood and readies them for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Music is an integral part of the Darchei Noam Hebrew School experience, and students learn traditional Hebrew songs and prayers every week, often with a modern twist.

Everybody is welcome to visit this beautiful, modern synagogue, designed with values of tradition, caring and sustainability in mind, and which is always buzzing with Jewish ideas, celebrations, conversations and life. You can visit on Shabbat in the light-filled sanctuary or join the High Holiday services, learning events, programs and celebrations.
