At Darchei Noam, we believe that the Bar/Bat Mitzvah journey is one that taken together. Becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah at Darchei Noam involves Jewish learning, tzedakah, and learning about the Darchei Noam community. Our hope is that after this journey is completed, you feel a sense of community here and feel a deeper connection to your Jewish roots. This journey involves the child, family and congregation.
Our Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program is designed to assist in the transition to Jewish adulthood by helping participants become a Jewish adult in the eyes of the community. Through experiential activities and trips, participants explore what it means to be a responsible young Jewish adult. A sense of Jewish identity that is strengthened and supported through open dialogue among the participants, creating a community of peers.
Our B’nai Mitzvah students have the chance to work one-on-one with talented tutors who guide them in their learning journey. They also work closely with our Rabbi and Education leader in researching and constructing their D’var Torah.
Our program ensures students become familiar with the culture, religion, ethics and customs of the Jewish people. Specific topics include:
· Knowledge of content, meaning and general structure of the Torah, Haftorah, the Shabbat service and Jewish prayer; concepts of Jewish ethics, social justice, and community obligation;
· Understanding the concept of becoming bar/bat mitzvah as a rite of passage, and how their Jewish practice will change as a result of that transition;
· Learning about Shabbat and the major Jewish holidays, lifecycle events, your family history (family tree), and Holocaust studies;
· An understanding of the organized Jewish community and its organizations and services.
Darchei Noam's Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program also includes an overnight Shabbaton for students enrolled in the program
Our Hebrew School is an inclusive environment that welcomes Jewish children from all types of families. We strive to accommodate the learning style and needs of every child. To speak to someone about your child, please contact us.
