IEC is sponsoring a conversation for students, with Sana Zahalka and Omri Gal, both Israelis and both dedicated to demonstrating that Israeli Jews and Israeli Palestinians can, are, and must be equal partners in creating an equitable and shared society. Both Sana and Omri are graduates of the Heart to Heart program founded in 2011 as a partnership between the Givat Haviva Education Foundation in Israel and Hashomer Hatzair/Camp Shomria in Canada. The Heart to Heart program brings a group of twenty Israeli teenagers to Canada every summer. Half of the participants identify as Palestinian Israeli, and half as Jewish Israeli. Upon arriving in Canada, the group spends two and a half weeks living together at Camp Shomria. The time spent in Canada is a focal point for the group, but it is complemented by workshops for participants at the Givat Haviva campus and in their respective communities leading up to, and after, their trip. Students between the ages of 13 and 20 are encouraged to come and meet the next generation of Palestinian and Jewish Israeli leaders.
