Going Forth: Agency, Displacement, and Identity

What does it mean to go forth? How do we know where to go? What happens when we get there? What happens along the way? Join Social Justice Scholar-in-Residence, Jenny Isaacs, as she explores Parshat Lech Lecha through the themes of agency and movement. Together we will examine the journeys unfolding throughout the parsha and the impact they have on the lives and identities of the people on and off the pages of our text.

Jenny Isaacs is an educator, community organizer, and activist whose work is rooted in the exploration of narratives, identity and diversity. She is the Director of Heart to Heart, a teacher, and co-founder and organizer of Base, a pluralistic beit midrash for young people in downtown Toronto. Jenny was the 2016 recipient of Ve’ahavta’s Emerging Leader Tikun Olam Award. In 2017, Jenny was a presenter at the Empathy for Peace Conference in Rome and in 2018 she was a presenter at the Pegasus Peace, Global Health and Sustainability Conference. This is her second year as the Darchei Noam Social Justice Scholar-in-Residence.
