Covid Update- In-person Shabbat services

October 29, 2021

Hello all members of Darchei Noam,

Good News!! After a long hiatus, the Board is excited to announce the resumption of in-person Shabbat services.

We are moving forward carefully and cautiously with safety as our top priority. We have developed guidelines and protocols to mitigate the risks associated with COVID-19 to ensure that the Shul is doing everything reasonably possible to protect the health, safety, and well-being of all community members.

These measures were: (a) developed in accordance with Health Canada, Government of Ontario and City of Toronto Public Health guidelines and recommendations; (b) reviewed by medical practitioners (physicians); and (c) informed by the experiences of other synagogues. Over time, we hope that the restrictions can be relaxed, and we can return to a more traditional service setting.

Initially, we expect that some members will choose to return to in-person services while others will choose to wait; we will continue to offer a virtual service for those who are not yet comfortable returning to the synagogue. At this time, we can host only members of DN. Live streaming and zoom services will be available to all our DN's friends.

For those who might consider returning to in-person services, the following is of importance:

  • Government of Ontario proof of vaccination will be required (No exemptions will be granted at this time).
  • Consent to waiver of liability
  • Satisfactory answers to the COVID screening tool.
  • Children under 12 years old (who are not yet eligible to get vaccinated) will not be permitted to enter the building.
  • Face masks must be properly worn at all times when inside the building.
  • Physical distancing of 2 meters (6 feet) must be maintained for those not part of the same family.
  • While praying out loud is permissible, no singing will be permitted during the service, except by service leaders; and
  • No consumption of food or water/beverages while be permitted inside the building.

On behalf of the entire Darchei Noam team,

David McKee,
