Secular Israeli rock stars are turning to Jewish tradition to find material for their songs – and in the process they are teaching Judaism to their fans.

Come listen to a few of these songs and discuss their meaning for Israeli listeners. For us in the Diaspora, this music will offer a unique insight into contemporary Israeli culture.

Rabbi Lawrence Englander is Rabbi Emeritus at Solel Congregation in Mississauga. He is a member of the Order of Canada for his work in community-based social justice programs and inter-faith dialog, and is a renowned teacher and spiritual leader. He is also a noted scholar of Jewish mysticism and an expert on - and lover of - contemporary Israeli music.
