Sunday, 12 February, 2017 • 16 Sh'vat 5777
7:30 PM - 9:30 PMSocial HallFebruary is Black History Month in Canada and traditionally its ignored in the Jewish school and community calendars, but there is plenty of reason to ensure our children, youth and adults know that there are Black Jews around the world, including both newly identified and ancient communities in Africa and well established Caribbean and Latin American groups too, and Israel is a diverse multi-racial country. This film follows a young IDF officer who was born in Ethiopia and immigrated to Israel with his family when thousands of Jews were evacuated due to hardships and persecution. Now a successful officer, Mekonen travels back to Ethiopia to uncover his roots.
