“Some 22 years ago, the Oslo process brought Israelis and Palestinians into an accord that was supposed to produce an end to their conflict. It has not ended. … At present there is no Middle East peace process at all. Indeed, less than two years before we mark half a century to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem, Israel and Palestine together are seemingly sliding slowly down a slippery slope toward a nasty quasi-apartheid reality. …throughout the region the political collapse of much of the Arab world will soon enter its sixth year. … Many of the mistakes that contributed to Oslo’s demise are now painfully apparent.”

- Yossi Alpher, introducing his book, No End of Conflict: Rethinking Israel and Palestine

Join Congregation Darchei Noam and Canadian Friends of Peace Now for an engaging discussion of the peace process and other regional matters, such as the situation with Iran.

Yossi Alpher was an officer in Israeli military intelligence, followed by twelve years of service in the Mossad, including as lead analyst regarding Iran. Until 1995, he was director of the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies at Tel Aviv University. In July 2000, he served as special advisor to the Prime Minister of Israel during the Camp David talks. From 2001 to 2012 he was coeditor of the bitterlemons.net family of Internet publications. He is the author of “Periphery: Israel’s search for allies in the Middle East” (2015).

Rabbi Rick Jacobs, the president of the URJ (the North American Reform movement) recently said of Yossi “He’s a brilliant thinker and a wise analyst of the complicated middle east. …he has served for years as an advisor to the URJ particularly around issues of peace and coexistence.”
